Mario is not why Nintendo is successful.
It isn’t Zelda, Kirby, or Pokemon, either.
Instead, it has to do with one core principle the company has stuck to since 1889. It’s a core principle that has turned the game maker into a $64 billion company.
Before I tell you what it is, I want to mention how important it is to have focus in your business.
You see, as an entrepreneur, it is all too easy to fall into the “shiny object” trap, always looking for a new thing or way to improve your business.
Sure, it’s good to always be looking for opportunities, but not focusing on one thing is something I see many entrepreneurs have trouble with - myself included.
But if you focus correctly, like Nintendo has, you could see success, too. You’re not going to make billions of dollars overnight, but focusing could get you there.
The one thing Nintendo focuses on is the key to their success.
That one thing?
While other video game companies are trying to come up with the best graphics, Nintendo is focusing on one thing - fun.
Nintendo does have a habit of making some bad decisions (I’m looking at you Wii U), but at the end of the day, all of their decisions are made in the name of fun.
How does this help you as an entrepreneur?
You need to find one thing you want to be known for. One thing you will be. One thing that describes what you and your business stand for.
Until you find that one thing, you’re going to try to be everything to everyone, and that is not a path you want to go down.
Get focused on the one thing you want and go full speed ahead.
