The most important business lesson I didn’t learn in business school

I have a BA in business and an MBA, but in school I didn’t learn the skills I needed to be an entrepreneur.

My first few businesses didn’t turn out well because of two major factors - one of which I’m going to tell you in a second.

But first…

I don’t mean to say that business school was completely useless. I did learn some basic accounting that I use for my business now.

But if you want to be an entrepreneur, business school probably isn’t your best bet.

In my experience, these programs teach you how to be an employee. And these skills are different from the skills you need to be an employer or entrepreneur.

And one of these things they don’t teach in business school is not only the key to success in business, but it might be the key to success in all areas of life.

And that thing is positive self-talk.

Now listen. I’ve never been the type of person that listens to Tony Robbins or reads books like The Secret.

Honestly… I always felt I was a bit above those things…

But being an entrepreneur requires you to face many obstacles - one of which is rejection.

And when you’re constantly feeling rejected it can really take a toll on your self-image.

You feel like you can never be successful and you should just give, go find a 9 to 5, and sit in a  cubicle for the next 40 years.

If you’re an entrepreneur, then you probably know there nothing as bad as ending up in a scenario like that.

So how do you keep on going when you’re feeling rejected all the time?

By keeping a positive attitude.

You see, there’s a great quote by Steve Jobs I think about all the time:

“Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact. And that is everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it-you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.”

Think about that for a second.

At the end of the day, everything was created by people. These people don’t have superpowers.

They’re just normal people.

Sure, some of them may have more resources or natural talent than you have, but at the end of the day, we all have more or less the same capabilities.

And when you realize that, your goals don’t seem so difficult anymore.

You can do it, just like the millions of other people have done it before.

So next time you’re facing rejection and feel like you can’t keep going, remember that the road you’re on has been traveled by many people just like you.

You can do it.
